"China in the 21st Century: Challenges and Opportunities"
The 19th ACPS Annual Meeting
The
University of Louisville
Louisville, Kentucky
Saturday-Sunday, April 1-2, 2006
The
Institute for Democracy and Development (IDD) at the
University
of
Louisville, together with the
McConnell
Center
for Political Leadership, will host the 19th ACPS Annual Conference
in Louisville,
Kentucky. The conference is being supported through a generous grant from
the McConnell
Center
for Political Leadership and the Mr. & Mrs. S.H. Wong
Foundation, Ltd. Hong Kong.
Our keynote speaker is Dr. Lowell Dittmer, Professor of Political
Science, University
of
California
at Berkeley, and Editor of the academic journal Asian Survey.
Proposals that cover all aspects of China
are welcome. Those that address the issue of China's rise and its impact on the world will be particularly welcome.
Well researched papers will have the following opportunities: (1) to
be selected as "The Best Papers;" (2) and/or to be
published in the ACPS official journal, Journal of Chinese Political
Science (JCPS); (3) and/or to be published in an edited book; (4)
and/or to be included in the Occasional Papers published by IDD.
The Best Papers Selection Committee is chaired by Professor Guo
Baogang (bguo@em.daltonstate.edu). JCPS, edited by Professor Guo
Sujian (sguo@sfsu.edu), is a refereed academic journal that has been
publishing for almost a decade. We have also been able to publish an
edited book for each of the ACPS annual meetings since 2000. Our
collection of papers for the 2004 annual meeting were edited by
Zhong Yang and Hua Shiping and are in press with World Scientific
Press. A book from the 2005 annual meeting in San Francisco
which attracted 60 participants is edited by Hua Shiping and will be
published by Palgrave-Mcmillan Press in 2006. IDD publishes
Occasional Papers each year, in addition to hosting Visiting
Scholars, holding conferences and coordinating research projects.
We provide participants with free accommodations of two days and
three nights. Because of a more comfortable financial situation this
year, we can offer to have a more flexible policy regarding
registration fees and we will try everything we can to find travel
subsidies for some participants.
Paper proposals should be sent to Professor Hua Shiping, Program Chair, at:
s0hua002@louisville.edu (0 is zero). Those who are interested in
serving as discussants or chairs can also contact him. His office
number is: 502-852-3305; Fax: 502-852-7923. The deadline for the
submission of proposals is January 1, 2006. Please click on the
registration to download a registration form.
