The Association of Chinese Political Studies will hold an international symposium on China's transition and ascension in conjunction with its 18th annual meeting at San Francisco State University in San Francisco, California from July 30-31, 2005. The conference will be co-hosted and sponsored by the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences at San Francisco State University.
China’s reform, open-up, and development over the last two decades have made enormous impact on the political, economic and cultural lives of the Chinese people as well as on the rest of the world. China’s transition and ascension have become the two major themes in the field of China studies across all academic disciplines. We welcome all papers that address any aspect of the central theme and the main questions related to the broad theme, which could include domestic politics, economics, culture, society, military, foreign policy, foreign relations, Taiwan Strait relations, Hong Kong and Macau in transition, their origins and consequences, problems and challenges, domestic and global implications, continuity and change, and retrospective and prospects. We will consider all topics and all important issues of Chinese politics.
Paper proposals should include paper title, names of authors, institutional affiliation, address, phone number, fax number, e-mail address, and one-page abstract. The deadline for submission of paper proposals is December 15, 2004.

Notes: The association will provide lodging and meal accommodation (two days and three nights) and possible travel subsidies for those who present a paper at the conference panel sessions and who serve as chairs and discussants. The association will issue notification of acceptance of the paper proposals on February 15, 2005.
International travelers who need letter of invitation for visa application purpose should contact Professor Shiping Hua.
All attendees will have to register and pay the registration fees for attending the conference. More information will be provided soon.
